According to New South Wales Police, the 36-year-old woman and her 44-year-old husband arrived in Sydney in October 2025 and signed up as Crown Casino members on the same day. What appeared to be routine visits soon raised suspicion as the couple repeatedly secured unusually large wins throughout October and November.
Investigators said the woman concealed a miniature camera under her T-shirt, allowing her to secretly capture images of cards on the gaming table. Their mobile phone was fitted with a custom mirror-camera attachment designed to enhance visibility of the card layout.
The husband allegedly received real-time instructions through a hidden earpiece, guiding him on how and when to place bets with near-perfect accuracy.
Casino Security Detects Suspicious Behavior
Crown Casino staff became alarmed after noticing strange hand movements and the unusual device hidden under the woman's clothing. Their suspicions escalated when they observed consistent high-value wins that were statistically improbable.
Security officers alerted the NSW Organised Crime Squad, who immediately responded and arrested the couple on the casino floor.
A subsequent search of their hotel room revealed several pieces of illegal gambling equipment, designer jewelry, and €2,000 in cash.
Charges and Court Proceedings
Police have charged both individuals with dishonestly obtaining a financial advantage by deception. Authorities believe the pair exploited sophisticated surveillance technology to manipulate outcomes and gain an unfair advantage over the casino.
The man has been denied bail and is scheduled to appear in court on December 11, while the woman’s court date has been set for February 2026.
Investigators praised the swift cooperation between casino security and law enforcement, emphasizing that technological cheating attempts are becoming increasingly advanced — and that casinos are intensifying their monitoring efforts to combat such schemes.
